T<\/span>he cotton, flax and wool transformation in cloths consisted in different working phases that the women of the Sassi carried out in their houses.<\/p>\n

The first one consisted in removing cotton seeds through a wood tool with a crank (‘u magnanidd<\/em>‘).<\/p>\n

Then they passed to the spinning through the spindle and the distaff and to the wrapping of thread in skeins and balls using the wool winder and the hands of willing relatives.<\/p>\n

So they prepared the spools with pieces of reed of different length and iron ‘rapiers’ (‘ndriatjr<\/em>‘ ).<\/p>\n

The spools had been inserted in the shuttles (‘sciascett<\/em>‘) allowing the women to weave with the loom the cloths used for sewing garments and laundry for the house.”<\/p>\n
